Anniversary wrap-up.
Aug 5, 2009
The Los Angeles 1 year anniversary was awesome. Like I mentioned before, Hundreds of people from all over, traveled and camped out for up to one week. The night before the anniversary is always a magical night. My sister and I went to buy candy to pass out to everyone in line.
The police insisted on a single file line, as people passing by couldn't make it onto the sidewalk.
I sat down with a group of customers and played some intense games of Catch Phrase (birth-milk!).

I was probably playing for over an hour.

Some ran the risk of camping in their parked truck on the side of the street. The twins made it down for some good times and I believe everyone played some kickball nights prior. Also, a water pipe randomly broke and completely flooded the street. Luckily everyone was safe and dry.

Someone had a vintage Johnny Cupcakes 'Cupscouts' t-shirt on, and matching tattoos!
And another girl got the ole' cupcake + crossbones behind the ear tattoo!

After a short nights sleep, the 1 year anniversary of Johnny Cupcakes Los Angeles quickly approached.
The lazy-mans' sunblock.

Vrrroom vrroooom!

First in line. One of these guys actually kept a timer on his iPhone, of how many hours he was outside camping. I'll have to post a photo another time, but it was a lot of hours.

Some of these guys actually traveled across the country to go to the Johnny Cupcakes Boat Cruise a few weeks ago.

Jeff and Paul came all the way from Boston to celebrate with friends.

As did Lisa and Cassandra.

The line kept growing, wrapping around the block and down residential areas. People were sitting on the lawns of many strangers.

My bakery staff has done an amazing job throughout the year. Thank you so much everyone! Also, in this photo is John. He actually came across the country to visit the shop for his birthday. He came last year too!

I played the ball game with all of the customers, and a bunch won free t-shirts. Here are just a few winners out of many...

We had delicious Izze drinks and hundreds of burgers and veggie burgers provided for everyone in line.

Whodidily Cupcakes of Montecito supplied some amazing cupcakes! Wendy and Dave are an amazing couple who run Whodidily. They've actually been supporting my brand for the past 4 years at least. Definitely make a trip to their shop one weekend and treat yourself to some unforgettable cupcakes.

My newest project, the monthly Johnny Cupcakes periodical The Cupcake Chronicle was released at the Los Angeles shop also. Remember, you can pick this up for FREE at any Johnny Cupcakes location. And when you order online, one is added to each order.

Thanks again everyone! This wouldn't be what it is without the help of all of you. It's crazy that one year has already passed since the opening of Johnny Cupcakes LA. And even in this bad economy we're somehow able to paint the streets with hundreds of camping customers for one week. I'm gonna keep doing what I can to keep things homegrown, personal, fun and different. Luckily I have a wonderful team of employees who help make all of my ideas come to life in the best way possible.
(Chris, Jeff and Randall - thank you for the photos too!)
PS: Tickets to THE GOONIES are available now. The only catch is, you cannot order them online - you can only purchase them at the box office. There are 400+ seats available, so purchasing tickets the day of should be fine (don't quote me though!). But if you'd like to purchase them earlier, you just have to take a ride down to the Theatre. See you Saturday night!
