Tuesday Tips: Relationships

He might be the king of hearts, but look how emotionally drained he is. Between the expression on his face & the sword going through his head. Looking at this card reminded me of how many people are in, or stay in relationships for the wrong reason. Don’t settle for less just because you’re afraid of not finding another person. If you’re not fully happy, feeling incomplete, still having to check-in a bazillion times a day because of trust issues, get in the occasional argument over old baggage, etc.– then do something about it.

Some people get so caught up in a relationship that they half ass their life. Some people get so caught up in life that they half ass their relationship. In my opinion, the smartest thing to do is to make sure you build a strong foundation for your life before taking on the responsibility of another humans emotions. It’s not fair for your lover and it’s not fair for you. You don’t want to half ass both and become emotionally drained like the king of hearts.

Flight Diversion.

On my way home from Barbados, my connecting flight to New York was diverted to Orlando Florida due to dangerous winds. No need to stress, I’m thankful we didn’t fly through the storm. We did hit some turbulence at points where I was nearly floating off my seat. After landing, I sat down and did some reading. I haven’t read a book since I was in high school. Seriously. That’s right, no business books or anything. I’ve met authors and have had many books given to me as gifts, but I just haven’t had the time or interest to read them. I’m almost like a fearless little kid when it comes to business. Since I haven’t done my research, reading, or studies–I haven’t been open up to all the scary possible ways of failing. And since I have no business model, my ideas and ways of running my brand don’t get skewed. Anyways, RZA’s book, The Tao Of Wu, is a great read.

Luckily Clark, my long time friend, designer, & fellow magician lived nearby. We got a delicious late night meal, & then got a good sleep before our breakfast buffet adventure. I’ll be heading home shortly to lecture in New Hampshire, but I’ll be back the day after for private lecture at Full Sail University. From there– New York University lecture, New York hangouts, and heading home again to do laundry just before the Suitcase Tour!
I’m not sure yet, but there’s a good chance I’ll take this suitcase tour to the UK for one night, right after I return from the U.S. portion. That’s right Matthew Samuel! Stay tuned for more updates..

Interesting Tiles.

I’m a very detail oriented person. Everywhere I go I’m inspecting the menus, labels, flooring, lighting, design, paint, etc.. I thought these tiles were laid out in an interesting way. If you haven’t noticed, I had most of the tiles in my Los Angeles shop hand-cut into fourths so that the smaller tiles give the appearance of a bigger space. The guy who hand-cut them for a couple of days wanted to strangle me. It did cost a lot more time and money, but it’s those little details that set you apart. And when you’re opening a new business or location, keep in mind that first impressions are everything.

My family was bummed out that I couldn’t make it on the family vacation because of my busy workload and travels. Despite my sleepless schedule & living out of my luggage — I thought it would be nice to surprise my family in Barbados. Been here for a few days. It’s beautiful and the grilled flying fish is deeeeeeelish!

No matter how busy or overwhelmed you might be in life, you should always take time out for your family.
