Johnny Cupcakes Presents video.

An inside look on how this whole Johnny Cupcakes Presents movie nights came about. My dad took my mom on dates here before I was born!

Pee-wee’s Big Adventure recap.

I had the pleasure of teaming up with The Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline once again, to present another one of my childhood favorites.

You can’t see it from this photo, but those are goldfish + water inside of those heels. Part of the night I felt like Pee-wee Herman, however– at times I felt like a stripper (from the shoes). See video at bottom of post.

Thanks for snagging my camera to take photos Joe!

I think one of my favorite things to observe, are what people do to occupy themselves in line. Some customers played scrabble!

As movie goers entered the Theatre, we gave out Tongue Splashers bubble gum– which makes your mouth change colors. I thought it would be fitting to go along with the scene where Pee-wee give Francis the blue-mouth trick bubble gum. Thank you for the gift Amanda. I knew I’d have a use for this!

We also gave out free pins to everyone. A little inspirational twist to the Johnny Cupcakes logo.

As the theater filled up, we cued the Tequila song in prep for the the Pee-wee dance competition, which was hilarious! A girl one, who was wearing flip-flops while she flawlessly stood on her tippy toes and danced across stage. Another kid who came in second place for the truffle shuffle contest at The Goonies showing, ended up doing the truffle shuffle during this Pee-wee contest (after the entire crowd chanted)- it was awesome.

All that was missing was my Dottie. See you all at Ferris Bueller’s Day off next month! Saturday, September 26th at midnight.

Johnny Cupcakes Swimwear video.

Here’s a quick little ditty that my friends and I partook in recently. Side note: Slip-N-Slides are a lot smaller than they look on television!

Back to School Bake Sale.

In case you didn’t notice– we have some Bake Sale items in stores and in our online shop. Making some room in the cupcake factory because this is when we ship in our elves for the labor-intensive holidays. For every item sold, it leaves a little bit of room for an elf.

In addition to that, a few new items are on the online shop– including .99 cent collectible glow-in-the-dark pencils and a T-shirt tribute to one of my favorite movies of all time, which essentially made me who I am today.

WWD / Women’s Wear Daily feature.

WWD / Women’s Wear Daily just had an interesting article about the ideas, strategies, etc.– that all different brands and shops are using to stay afloat during this financial crisis. Last week they interviewed/featured me for this story.

Something’s in the air.

When I walked outside this morning, I stumbled upon a handful of bugs that you don’t normally see on a day-to-day basis. I felt like a little boy taking photos of dead bugs. That, or someone from The Adam’s Family. Anyhow…

I’m not sure why these were all over my driveway? A lot of them were hollow too? Maybe the ant version of the Chubacabra drained the life out of them? There were many more, but I was about to eat a waffle and this was enough pre-snack excitement.

The Inc. 500.

My brand, Johnny Cupcakes, was voted the #237th fastest growing private company in the nation by Inc. Magazine’s annual Inc. 500. It’s a huge accomplishment and I’m taken back to be featured/awarded in this issue– especially in this economy.

At first it was between the whole nation, then narrowed down to the top 5,000 business’s in the nation… and now it got narrowed down to the top 500 in this one special issue. Thank you everyone for your support and loyalty to my brand. You are enabling me to live my dreams and to keep coming out with fun surprises and quality products, events and experiences for you– all while employing/supporting my friends + family.

More importantly, I have an amazing team of employees who help bring my ideas to fruition via organization, planning, design, customer service, shipping, managing, book keeping, trademarking, business development, building– and all the way to helping you out in the shops and online. Yes, this is my brand. However, this brand isn’t just me. It would be impossible for me to do it all at 110%, unless I grew 30+ arms and a couple chunks of fresh brains. Extra body parts set aside– Every day I make sure I have a hand in everything while orchestrating my brand as best as I can. But just like every brand out there, a lot of involvement and hard work is put in behind the scenes. Big or little, every person in my brand does something of importance. I plan on introducing them in the future via the blog, so stay tuned.

Aside from raises, bonuses, random gifts and high-fives, I want to thank all of my employees for being there with my brand. It means a lot to me. I apologize if I’ve been traveling, hustling and being in my own little world. I love and appreciate you all. Here’s to the future! (insert Back To The Future music here… and a sports almanac.)
