The Cupcake Chronicle.

I wanted to come up with yet another fun way to stay in touch with my customers. So far there’s the in-store events, movie nights, the lecture series, meet-ups, my blog, facebook grouptwitter. But I wanted to come up with yet another way to keep a fun, personal connection with you guys. These connections are important because my brand wouldn’t be what it is without all of you, and I wouldn’t sell it for all the money in the world.

Now introducing my newest creation.. The Cupcake Chronicle. This periodical is a free, monthly mini publication that provides comprehensive coverage of the Johnny Cupcakes brand + lifestyle. Think Johnny Cupcakes meets Highlight’s magazine, but miniature + free. Every month I’ll have updates, games, puzzles, recipes, trivia, product news, contests, event listings + more! Sending out the event listings alone in this way will cut down on us making all those heaps of flyers – reducing waste and saving a bunch of trees while I’m at it! Printed on recycled paper too.

Starting right now, I will be releasing the August issue. You cannot purchase this alone or subscribe to this. You also cannot find it online. There’s something satisfying about taking a break from online reading and having a pleasant, different, physical read. This periodical, The Cupcake Chronicle, will be included in every online order as well as being available in-stores. LA will be releasing theirs at the 1 year anniversary this coming Saturday, August 1st. However – my Boston shop and all online orders have theirs right NOW!

Balls, prizes + tattoos.

Not too long ago I played this ball game that I made up (see video a bunch of blog posts down) – in my Boston shop. We had about a dozen winners. This girl traveled from afar and deserved her free t-shirt prize.

This guy one a few prizes and I let him trade them in for a sweatshirt.

I gave out $100 cash to whomever could get 6 balls in. This lady won it!

A couple popped in the shop, showing off their matching Johnny Cupcakes tattoos.

One of my die hard customers, Jeff, got the Johnny Cupcakes Jason tattoo. There are over 100 people with different Johnny Cupcakes tattoos. I apologize to them for not blogging about their tattoos – I’m just recapping some recent in-store activities. Perhaps I’ll make a tattoo section on my website at some point, where everyone can showcase theirs.

It was an eventful weekend. I’ll have another video up soon – and I will be playing this game at the LA anniversary on August 1st!

I adopted 8 English people.

So I adopted 8 English people… sorta.

uk_brady_bunch_walk

A few years back I received an e-mail from someone who was searching for some advice on starting a clothing line(sorry anyone if I haven’t replied back – I’m having a very hard time keeping organized with that). I did my best to hit him up with some tips and what not. A year or 2 went by and his clothing lineSuffoca is going great. He then saw on my Twitter page that I was going to be heading out to the UK for the first time to do some lecturing and wandering. We chatted back and forth and he got me all sorted out with being a first time traveler there. My friend Brandon and I stayed with Boyce and his girlfriend Maisie for a night after our long road trip up to Leeds College of Art and Design for my lecture… and after we visited this really scary haunted churchtogether. All and all, I met some complete strangers that ended up being some great friends.

Deacon is a friend of Boyce’s who I met when I was in the UK. I guess he’s the one who got Boyce into my brand. While eating dinner in London, Deacon mentioned his family was going on a road trip throughout America and they were wondering about good hotels in Boston. I told him that they could all stay with me. So fast forward a few months, here I am with a house full of 8 English people.

We celebrated Boyces birthday in the city and at home with some adventurous bike rides, bits of junk food, and some homemade dinner. While going into Boston, we took the boat in + out, which was a pleasant ride.

When I was 14 I used to sell Boston Harbor Cruise ‘Whale Watch’ t-shirts near this dock.

I miss everyone already! Thank you for the great company and good times. I can’t wait to head back to London for more memories and such. People over there are very welcoming. I feel like I’m related to everyone I’ve met there.

NFTE visit in NYC.

While in New York last week for my birthday, I was invited to lecture for the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship. Finding the classroom that it was hosted in was an adventure on its own.

Hmmm…

These are selected high school kids from all over America who were flown out to New York for a series of workshops and lectures. I met many interesting students who all have their own businesses and even their own business cards!

nfte_ny_kids

This one girl had a really cool business card for her homemade candle making business which was all naturally looking/feeling. It fit well with the branding of her company. It’s cool seeing kids who have an eye for those type of details that usually get overlooked. Anyways, it was very inspiring to see all of these students in high school starting their businesses at such a young age. When you’re in high school or college it’s the best time to start something! You’ve got so many resources, not so much at risk, not too too many responsibilities + bills (yet!), and a lot of networking. Keep up the great work everyone!

The gator makes me happy. He’s this month’s ‘Bakers Dozen’ t-shirt. Each shirt has a different number silk screened on the back to guarantee authenticity.

Los Angeles California Events.

A couple events on the rise for the west coast. If you’re making your way out to the 1 year anniversary, make sure you don’t eat that day. We’ll be serving up all sorts of food and desserts, as well as some other goodies. And yes, we will be doing the ball toss game, so you’ll be able to win some FREE t-shirts (see video a few blogs down).

And if you are coming up for the 1 year anniversary, you might as well stick around for the following weekends event. LA’s special screening of Johnny Cupcakes Presents: THE GOONIES. Advanced tickets should be available in the next week. I’ll put a link up in my online shop as soon as they are.
